Particle Loss Characterization #30 - 2013-03-24

ID:
30

Name:
Particle Wallloss RH50

Instrument:
Soft X-ray Differential Mobility Analyzer in Negative Mode (#413)

Chamber:
Near/Far Bag 2012-2015 (Tran)

Temperature (°C):
22

Relative humidity (%):
50

Particle composition:

  • Ammonium sulfate

Particle measurement size range:
16-915 nm

Particle generation method:
Atomization

Date of characterization experiment:
2013-03-24

Months since calibration:

Wall loss experiment description:
Introduce desired amounts of relative humidity (RH). Atomize particles into the bag. Mix briefly, and monitor wall loss over the course of several hours.

Wall loss rates calculation method:
Fit each particle diameter size bin with their loss rates (s-1)

Frequency of particle loss experiments:
Usually they are done for each experiment set but the rates don't change much throughout the years

Wall loss correction description:
At each particle size bin, the loss rate is used to calculate how many particles were lost and then added back on. We check that this correct doesn't increase or decrease particle volume during times when no reaction is occuring.
