Date: 2018-11-21
Organization

Chamber
1-White (1W)
Experiment Set
Gas-aerosol-wall partitioning kinetics from Liu CC 2019 (various organic and inorganic seed aerosol types)
Goals
Determine the average and individual gas-particle accommodation coefficients of reaction products formed from toluene photooxidation and contributing to SOA formation.
Summary
Toluene, Methyl nitrite, NO, and particle seed added to chamber, UV lights turned on for 10-20 sec, multifunctional products formed and some condensed to aerosol. The 10-20s UV light/photochemistry bursts were repeated 7 times. SMPS measurements of particle size distributions were conducted to determine particle formation, surface area and condensational sink rate coefficients. In this experiment reported, Aerosol-phase chemical species were measured with HR-AMS.
Additional Notes
In another repeat of this experiment discussed in Liu et al. (2019), instead of monitoring particle phase composition with AMS, the gas-phase composition was monitored with a nitrate CIMS. However that experiment is not reported in the database since the data was complex, and most gas-phase compounds used in the analysis were not identified nor quantified.Experiment Details

Name: Gas-aerosol-wall partitioning kinetics from Liu CC 2019 (various organic and inorganic seed aerosol types)
Time format and units: All times UTC. Data is in Igor time, sec since midnight 1904
Description:
Fast burst photooxidation of alkanols (high-NOx). Gas-aerosol-wall partitioning kinetics of multifunctional oxidize species generated. Determine accommodation coefficient (alpha) and effective volatility under differing seed aerosol types (differing phase and polarities, inorganic/organic, humid/dry, standards/SOA). (Liu et al., 2019). In one experiment, toluene was oxidized instead of the alkanol mixture.
These data were also used for investigating activity coefficients (gamma) of the oxidized species in the different seed particles (Liu et al., 2021).
